MadlyWilde Prompt: inner rebellion/outer disdain/secretly want/openly express

my outer disdain is a plain blank mask
worn in the masquerade we dance
to disguise the damage, the desperation
the depths and dimensions of what
we secretly want, desperately desire
to openly express our inner rebellion
to tear away the false faces and face
ourselves flawed and fascinating

MadVerse Prompt: whispered confessions / midnight secrets / last time

we are
whispered confessions
sotto voce vices
each others
midnight secrets
and the last time
will always be
the last time
until the
next time

conclusions

i burned down to ash
immolated but believing
i was a phoenix
i would fly again
not knowing
this urn would be my fate
and now i sit upon the mantle
and dream and wait

MadVerse Prompt:pierced heart/ numbing thoughts/ tendrils of memories

the tendrils of memories
like creeping ivy throttle
and with cruel thorns stab
my pierced heart throbs
with each remembrance
no numbing thoughts
among the lot
only excess pain afresh
as nostalgia clings
and roots me to the spot

WyldeVerse Prompt: my gypsy heart

much maligned
and misunderstood
my gypsy heart
flees your persecution
finds solace in itself
hides its sorrows
in revelry and history
and songs of
brighter tomorrows

MadVerse Prompt: curves become / tracing the path / can't describe

tracing the path of her curves he becomes mesmerized
tongue-tied / can't describe
the graceful lines in the simple tilt of her head
the exquisite architecture in the arch of her back
the welcoming softness in the plump pillows of her lips
and so overwhelmed, so speechless,
he offers her a kiss and hope it says what he cannot

WyldeVerse Prompt: throbbing moment

like vibrations on a dance floor
rising through feet to rattle bones
in swells disorienting
as a dingy riding high seas
so quivered the air
between their lips
in a throbbing moment
swollen with portent
as they began
their last first kiss

instapoem: bottles

MadVerse Prompt: incandescent / implosion / halo-effect

he smiles incandescent
and it creates an aurora
the halo-effect of his kiss
envelopes her
within her, an implosion
as darkness shatters and
she is filled with his light

virus

infected me with hope
a laugh contagious
smile a catalyst
filled with your pathogens
before you left for the next victim

memories remain
and replicate
and render me helpless
I should have vaccinated
or quarantined myself
when I had the chance

I cannot find a cure

MadVerse Prompt: mythic / tell me a story / personal vices

Once, there was he
and he wrote me a song.
He told me a story
of when love came along;
a love so mythic
it could overcome fears
and personal vices
and banish all tears.
I hum it sometimes,
accidentally.
He sings it still,
just not to me.

MadVerse Prompt: bereft of / steerless rudder / lost guide star

floating in an ocean of despair
bereft of hope/ lost in darkness
with no stars to guide me
I drifted off course, of course
steerless, rudder detached by storms,
I was alone
til through the fog  -a voice
and I dove and swam and found you

nightmare

a cracked and broken sky
reflected in staccato sigh
grey scalpel winds
render each breath into
shards and shrapnel
Victorian playthings
in a Gothic horror story
porcelain dolls dropped down the stairs
laying splayed on marbled floors
mosaics of painted faces
unstuck and shattered
awaiting animation we drag
on devil days
with weighted feet
we wait in the shadows and rot
pouring over empty photo albums
caressing the faded spaces
as our dilapidated collapse occurs
and we are lost to entropy and nightmare

Bowie

jumpsuited, lithe and sparkling
a sprite bounding
from the pages of a picture book
spirited from the facets of a disco ball
he called to us
in voice glorious
and growling
occasionally howling
and in his misfit madness
he sang away our sadness
remaking us
from freak to unique
in lycra or a sharp suit
accessorized with sharper wit
this Pied Piper of outcasts
lead us along
in a cloud of Stardust
and midnight dreams

Birthday Girl (a poem for Tanya)

cacophonous giggle
appealing and peeling the paint off the walls
as it peals down the halls
and we’re all enthralled
at the music spontaneous and contagious
glorious and outrageous
embodied in ringlets and a smile bodacious
that bounds and beats
that pounds the streets
with talent and temerity
in righteous parity
fierce friend/ferocious foe
fortitude and forbearance
in puckish appearance
juggling words and worlds
in painterly swirls
a Starry Night
no more luminous
than her eyes and openness
all this we celebrate
as we raise a glass
concentrated and distilled
with the liquor of a laugh
as intoxicating and enveloping
as moonshine drunk
in sunshine on a perfect summer day
for that is her way

instapoem: coffeeheart

MadVerse Prompt: just this side of / turned away / crashed into

you crashed into me
just this side of heaven
as I peered over the wall
marveling
never having seen
so much beauty
until I turned away
from paradise's promise
to look on you

MadVerse Prompt: perpetually affixed / luminous gaze

my gaze / luminous and illuminating
lit by your taper I blazed
dazzled by your beauty / amazed
that you claimed the same
eyes perpetually affixed
to the beacon in yours
burning back at me
signal fires flashing
unspoken conversation
until your fire untended
dwindled and died
while kindling I added
and now I burn alone

MadVerse Prompt: January fire/amethyst horizon/staining

in cold dark of winter
a January fire
burns in the sky
staining the night's
vaulting ceiling
to the amethyst horizon
that flickers northward
calling me
further into the cold
with a luminous ballet
a hollow laugh
and a frozen heart
